Considering how instrumental you all have been in making revives impossible, please have your resident wiki reps (zeug & 'arm?) contribute to this developing article. wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/First_Ruin_of_Caiger_MallFeel free to make it a zombie version of The Battle of Blackmore since I don't see it being worthwhile any other way.

Now I wish I had saved some screenshots. I already see a bit of division in what I remember and what others observed. I was fairly certain that when I arrived at Latrobe, although some zeds had gathered the NT was still at EHB with at least 30-40 survivors inside. Now it's quite possible that LUE had initiated a break in before I arrived, but I doubt it considering how quickly they crushed the mall. I don't think they would have been that easily pushed back at Latrobe.
I know for certain that when I got there, an Extinction lead destruction of the barricades and subsequent infiltration of the NT (and some well timed rising) helped to hold the doors open so that the horde outside could come in. I know because I was involved, and I stood inside Latrobe attacking constantly for at least 24 hours before I was shot down and dumped. At this point, i do not think the full power of LUE was present, although some members may have been(? this is speculation on my part). I do recall seeing some Eastonwood Ferals, but that may not have been until the next day. Perhaps LUE came in the evening while I was asleep and finished off Latrobe, because by the next day it was pretty much a ruin and we were focusing on Herman.
Once Latrobe was crushed, we moved on Herman. I definitely know that was purely Extinction led, because I helped to lead it! I remember there was talk of which NT to move to next, when LUE swarmed the NW section of the mall and broke in within minutes. 10 minutes later, after watching most of the survivors run for cover instead of standing to fight, it was evident the mall was broken on the first real attempt at a siege (I think in the previous 24 hours there had been some random feral attacks and perhaps even a break in or two, but nothing organized).
Anyway, since that time we've just been clearing the surrounding buildings, but that's what my selective and somewhat adled brain remembers of the two days leading up to the Ruin of Caiger. Possibly I have some details wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Can another Extinction member that was there post their account? I feel like I AM going crazy, or maybe just forgetting the events the farther away they get. I don't know WHY the part that says LUE crushed Latrobe bothers me (maybe because of all the AP me and my fellows used getting in there and holding the doors open... that's probably it).... If it said, "LUE and Extinction crushed Latrobe", I'd probably not have a problem at all. I guess I just don't want my part in this whole thing to get lost. Hrm. Yes, I guess I am selfish.

You're probably right. I actually arrived late and was just going off of the fact that it was part of LUE's plan to hit Latrobe first and by the time I got there, there were like 130 zombies already there. I ask some LUEsers who actually attended, see how they remember it. But if you find someone else who agrees with your remembrance, change the outline as you see fit. That's why it's in that form right now.

Wow... that Battle of Blackmore page is very cool! I'll have to spend some time reading through it all. The outline for the Caiger article looks really good to me. I guess that some people have protested the title of "The First Ruin of Caiger Mall", but I don't see why. It was literally, and maybe figuratively as well, the first time that Caiger was ruined. I've heard estimates of the number of zombie casualties that were suffered during the battle, but I probably wouldn't try to include that in the article. It just seems like it would be very hard to accurately estimate how many zombies were killed. Plus, it probably doesn't matter much anyway, as the undead just stand back up again after dying. It's kind of weird that the last ransacking of Caiger Mall isn't included in its history. LUE's destruction of Caiger was extremely impressive and definitely historical, but it was over so quickly that it lacked a lot of drama. When Caiger was last sacked in early February '07, there was a big build-up to it. The Latrobe NT was under siege for about a month, and when the dead finally broke into Caiger, it was a climactic event. IIRC, the mall also stayed ransacked for about two months afterward, so it had a big effect on NW Malton. I don't know who all the groups were that participated in the battle (that was before Extinction existed), so I really wouldn't be able to help with an article about it. Lukahn's recollection of the events preceding the latest sacking of Caiger sound pretty accurate to me. I believe that the first group of zombies to break into Latrobe belonged to Extinction, but honestly, we probably didn't have that many members there. I think that a lot of our members were still up in Gatcombeton at the time. After we re-took Calvert Mall from the DEM, some of us sprinted down to Latrobe, but many Extinction zombies didn't realize how quickly LUE moved, so they stayed around Calvert to finish off safe houses. We definitely had double-digit numbers at Latrobe, but the full Extinction force hadn't arrived yet and I don't know what the condition of the building was like before LUE got there. That reminds me of my favorite quote from the Wiki "news" section of the Caiger Mall page: "THE LATROBE BUILDING IS CLOSE TO FALLING only one survivor holding out at this tome (sic), vs 135 zombies. posted 1:48 EST." ;D
