After I bust into a building, and before I have a snack, I like to look over the selections presented before I start mauling them. Anyone with NT skills moves to the front of the dining queue (bad survivor, put down that dirty syringe), followed by those with pistol skills, then on down to which ever one looks tasty.
So, before I sink my teeth into a juicy brain, how do I tell if the survivor in front of me is food or ally? I've seen some mentions of NJT's or the like in other threads. Perhaps I've just missed this information.

Put simply, all responsibility for staying alive and scouting is down to us. Just eat whoever you like.
I've been killed a couple of times, but it's all a part of the job, and there's always some chump down at Caiger willing to dish out a revive.

yeah. dont worry about eating us. if you happen to know who one of us is, it would be cool if you didnt eat us. but really its no big deal. eat up. also... any of our troops being revived is a good thing. its a waisted syringe and a chunk of AP right down the drain.

I just add as much members of Extinction as I can to my contacts. But of course it wouldnt matter, chances are the Extinction survivors have all of the zombie skills as well as all the human skills.
